Napolean placed a final 'stop-order' in 1815 but the slave trade continued clandestinely until 1848.  The visit to Goree was the highlight of our visit to Senegal and made me appreciate much more the role of the Dutch, Portugeuse, French and British as well as the many African merchants who were profiting from the trade
